Molecular Biology of the Gene, Fifth Edition
by James D. Watson (Author), Tania A. Baker (Author), Stephen P. Bell (Author), Alexander Gann (Author), Michael Levine (Author), Richard Losick (Author)
The long-awaited new edition of James D. Watson's classic text, Molecular Biology of the Gene, has been thoroughly revised and is published to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Watson and Crick's paper on the structure of the DNA double-helix. Twenty-one concise chapters, co-authored by five highly respected molecular biologists, provide current, authoritative coverage of a fast-changing discipline, giving both historical and basic chemical context. Divided into four parts: Genetics and Chemistry, Central Dogma, Regulation, and Methods. For college instructors, students, and anyone interested in molecular biology and genetics.

Microscopic images transmitted by mobile cameraphone
Microscopic images transmitted by mobile cameraphone
hi all, i found this article intresting. do write your comments.
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (2007) 101, 1053—1055.
A novel application of mobile cameraphone technology is the capture and transmission of images directly from the eyepiece of an ordinary laboratory microscope. The only equipment required is a spacer that allows the mobile phone camera to be held steady at the correct distance from, and parallel to, the microscope eyepiece lens. I used a plastic bottle cap, 35mm in diameter and 13mm deep, with an aperture about the diameter of the eyepiece lens (20mm) cut out of it. When the microscopic field to be captured is in focus, the spacer, cupped against the microscope eyepiece, is sandwiched between the camera and the eyepiece. By viewing the phone display and carefully adjusting the camera position, the image is centred, refocused if necessary, and captured. It can then be transmitted directly to another mobile phone or, ideally, to a computer, where it can be enlarged and enhanced, for expert opinion and permanent record. The resolution and colour reproduction of the image is limited by the camera’s quality. I used a basic mobile phone camera with a resolution of 640×480 pixels. This is sufficient to transmit images of objects of moderate size, such as a malaria gametocyte, or trypanosomes on a Giemsa-stained blood film, but not very small or subtle microscopic detail. However, mobile cameraphones are becoming ever cheaper and more sophisticated, with high resolution, zoom lenses, autofocus and video capture commonplace. The ubiquity of mobile phone networks will allow application of this simple technique in many situations where the dedicated and expensive microscope, camera, software, and computer network required for conventional telemedicine do not exist; for example, in rural diagnostic laboratories in developing countries.

Principles of Molecular Regulation
Principles of Molecular Regulation
by P. Michael Conn (Editor), Anthony R. Means (Editor)
Product Details:
* Hardcover: 474 pages
* Publisher: Humana Press; 1st edition (August 15, 2000)
* Language: English
* ISBN-10: 0896036308
Book Description:
P. Michael Conn and Anthony Means have successfully assembled a panel of leading investigators to provide an integrated review of the key areas-membrane receptor-initiated cell signaling and nuclear-receptor initiated gene regulation. Chosen for the excellence of their research, these distinguished authors illuminate the molecular machinery underlying the regulatory processes of cells. In addition to their comprehensive review of the signaling mechanisms involving cell surface receptors, nuclear receptors, and ion channels, they detail the roles of calcium, lipids, cyclic AMP, protein kinases, and protein phosphatases. Capturing the excitement now present at this vibrant union of molecular biology, cell biology, and endocrinology, Principles of Molecular Regulation constitutes a major new resource for understanding the many and complex elements of biological regulation. Its up-to-date critical synthesis is certain to prove of high value to all basic and clinical investigators working with these processes today.

Diseases and Disorders - AIDS
Diseases and Disorders - AIDS (Diseases and Disorders)
by Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen (Author)
Product Details:
* Board book: 112 pages
* Publisher: Lucent Books; 1 edition (July 30, 2004)
* Language: English
* ISBN-10: 1590184041
Bokk Description:
Succinct yet informative, this entry in the Understanding Diseases and Disorders series defines HIV and AIDS, explains the spread of HIV and the treatment of both HIV and AIDS, and discusses related scientific and humanitarian efforts around the world. Medical descriptions are clear, with challenging vocabulary highlighted for glossary cross-referencing, and statistics are current and startling. Well-chosen quotations from patients put a human face on the disease; in some, children (including Ryan White) describe their symptoms and setbacks; elsewhere, teens speak honestly about how they contracted the disease. A concluding chapter will leave many young readers discouraged by the inability of developing countries to procure needed drugs but cautiously hopeful about the progress of researchers and social activists.
