This book represents a compendium on zoonotic and communicable diseases throughout the world. Among the 176 diseases covered, some are emerging zoonoses like Lyme disease, Rocio encephalitis, Oropouche fever, and Ebola disease. It notes the spread of the Rift Valley fever virus and the protozoan Cryptosporidium.
The book is divided into five parts on the basis of the etiologic agents' position in biological classification: bacterioses; mycoses; chlamydioses and rickettsioses; viroses; and parasitic zoonoses. Discussions of the 176 diseases cover information on synonymy, etiology, geographic distribution, occurrence in animals, the disease in man, the disease in animals, the source of infection, mode of transmission, the role of animals in the epidemiology, and disease diagnosis and control.
